Dow moves office

DowElanco Canada Inc. is moving its head office to Calgary, Alta. from Newmarket, Ont.

The move is expected to be completed by August, 1995. DowElanco manufactures and markets weed and insect control products.

WestCan signs deal

WestCan Alfalfa Inc. has signed a deal with China’s largest dairy company.

The Regina-based marketing group will supply Shanghai Dairy Corporation with processed alfalfa products. WestCan Alfalfa is providing technical assistance to the Chinese company in exchange for a guaranteed market. It expects the sale will increase its 1995 sales by $3 million.

Land commission

The British Columbia agriculture land commission has two new members. Cheryle Huscroft of Lister and Gus Horn of 100 Mile House were appointed to one-year terms in October. Huscroft is a former co-ordinator of the Creston Valley Agriculture Society. Horn is a director of the Cariboo Organic Producers Association.

Appointments made

A round of appointments to the Manitoba environment council, made by environment minister Glen Cummings, bring total membership to 12. Now serving on the council are Christine Common-Singh, Rick Howard, Bill Turnock, Ian Rollo, Allan Lansdown, Diane Malley, David Punter, Peter Miller, Will Grieve, Bill Pruitt, Derek Muir and Jim Ball.

The council is an advisory group which provides advice and recommendations on environmental matters and provides assistance in the development and presentation of environmental education programs.

Co-op conference

Saskatchewan co-operatives and the provincial government are hosting an international co-operative conference next year in Saskatoon, June 14-19. The conference will focus on globalization, technology, changing communities and rural restructuring.
