The radar this morning indicates that the Prairies are mostly dry with a couple of small disturbances moving through southcentral Saskatchewan. The main action in North America will be in the central U.S. which will keep the Prairies relatively calm. The next system will enter the Prairies on Wednesday and will track across the central Prairie region on Wednesday and Thursday.  This will be followed by low pressure system from the U.S. which will track across the border region on Thursday and Friday.  These systems will bring  a total of 15 to 30 mm across the Prairie region. It will be a wet week across the Prairies.

Temperatures this morning are mild across the Prairies with overnight lows near the freezing mark. Highs today will reach the upper single digits to low teens. These temperatures will continue through Wednesday with high close to average ( low teens currently). Cooler temperatures will arrive on Thursday and Friday with highs expected to struggle to hit the freezing mark. Warmer temperatures are expected to return on the weekend with highs pushing back to the low teens.

The long-term forecast remains mixed for Western Canada with the trough over western Canada weakening while the ridge in the central and western U.S. breaks down. The cooler weather during the last week in April will delay seeding progress in southern growing areas of the Prairies. The central and northern areas of the Prairies still have snowcover and will not be able to begin planting until May given the current forecast. The weather pattern over the next two weeks is expected to bring above normal amounts of rainfall during the remainder of the month.
