SASKATOON (Staff) – Saskatchewan Wheat Pool has joined forces with a group of local farmers planning to build an inland terminal at Leader, Sask.

The pool has signed a letter of understanding with Great Sandhills Terminal Ltd. to assess the viability of building a “major grain handling facility” in the area, according to a news release from Sask Pool.

This is the first time the pool has become involved in one of the dozen or so farmer-owned inland terminal projects now in the works across the province. Cargill Ltd., Pioneer Grain Co. Ltd. and United Grain Growers Ltd. have all been involved in previous projects.

Farmers in the Leader area, northwest of Swift Current, began working on the project last March.
