There is little in the way of precipitation showing on radar this morning as the high pressure system builds into the central Prairies. This ridge will result in minimal precipitation for the Prairies over the next five days. The next system will push across the northern Prairies beginning tomorrow which will bring light precipitation to the western growing areas. Less than 5 mm of precipitation will fall in Alberta and western Saskatchewan over the next two days. The remainder of the Prairies will be mostly dry over the next five days.

AM Market Report – April 9, 2026
GOOD MORNING…HERE IS YOUR MORNING MARKET NEWS OVERNIGHT GRAIN TRADE Grain markets are in the green to start this morning….

Temperatures this morning are cool with temperatures mostly in the -15 to -25C range with the coolest temperatures in the eastern Prairies. Highs today in the west are expected to reach to the low negative single digits. Eastern areas of the Prairies will be cooler with highs in the -10 to -15C range. The western areas of the Prairies will remain in low single digits in the west while temperatures in the east will remain in the -10C to -20C range. Cooler temperatures will arrive on the Prairies later in the week with highs reaching the -20 to -30C range in the east and -10 to -15C range in the west.

The long-term forecast is calling for a ridge to redevelop in western North America. The troughing pattern moves into the eastern U.S. which will leave the eastern Prairies at close to normal temperatures during the first week of February. The western Prairies will continue to receive above normal temperatures during the last week of January and early February. This weather pattern will result in drier than normal conditions as storms will be blocked by the high pressure ridge. This is not good news for the Prairie moisture situation.
