Canadian Financial Close: C$ steady

Glacier FarmMedia — The Canadian dollar held steady on Wednesday.

     The Canadian dollar settled at US$0.7120 or US$1=C$1.4045, which compares with Tuesday’s close of US$0.7119 or US$1=C$1.4046.

     Canadian manufacturing sales dipped by 1.0 per cent in August to C$69.4 billion, reported Statistics Canada. Wholesale sales in the country fell by 1.2 per cent to C$85.4 billion.      

     Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem is set to provide some comments on Canada’s economic outlook on Thursday.

     The continued shutdown of the U.S. government and resulting lack of economic data remained a feature in the financial markets.

     West Texas Intermediate crude oil was down by 0.10 per cent at US$58.64 per barrel.

     The TSX Composite Index was up by 283.51 points at 30,637.12 points.
