HOGS

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available July 4. It was $80.22 June 27.

U.S. hogs averaged $110.21 on a carcass basis July 4, down from $108.09 June 27.

The U.S. pork cutout was $110.21 per hundredweight July 4, down from $117.46 June 27.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 4 was 1.821 million. It was 1.887 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 1.427 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the July 5 Signature Four price was $260.60 per 100 kilograms, down from $263.19.

Pork doing the right thing

Manitoba’s pork industry gives the province a lot to be proud of.

The July 5 Hams Marketing cash price was $258.60, while on June 28 it was $261.19. HyLife was $274.90 this week and $280.72 June 28. OlyWest was $274.90, up from $267.70 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $282.60, from $276.60, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $274.90 this week. On June 28 it was $283.34.

BISON

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices of $635-$690 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $610-$650 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bulls and heifers were $500-$550 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$485-$500 per cwt. for bulls and $450-$475 per cwt. for heifers.

Prices for mature bulls and cows were not available.

All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were not available.

LAMBS

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 249 sheep and 621 lambs sold June 30.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,410 sheep and 423 goats sold June 23.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $380-$425 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $350-$420, 70-85 lb. were $350-$395, 86-105 lb. were $340-$375, and 106 lb. and heavier were $328-$368. Wool rams were $170-$230 per cwt. Cull ewes were $150-$240.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $345-$405, 55-69 lb. were $335-$385, 70-85 lb. were $330-$380, 86-105 lb. were $330-$370 and 106 lb. and heavier were $310-$340. Hair rams were $165-$235 per cwt. Cull ewes were $145-$230.
