Thieves helped themselves to some “gifts” from the Pike Lake Fire Hall in Pike Lake, Sask., over the Christmas break.
Among the stolen items is the hall’s set of “jaws” used to extricate people involved in car accidents from their vehicle.
“This puts the community this hall serves at risk as the equipment from this hall is unable to respond to any calls for service for the time being,” said Delisle and District Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Given. “Thankfully our hall in Delisle will be able to cover any calls in the area in the interim.”

The Pike Lake Fire Hall, where the break-in occurred, is a satellite hall of the Delisle Department.
Chief Given says the equipment is all insured, but the claim could be a large one, and the tools will take some time to be replaced.

“It could be as much as $20,000 worth of equipment, and that’s a very preliminary estimate,” said Chief Given. “We’re still going through the hall to determine what else may be missing.”
Pike Lake is located about 35 km southwest of Saskatoon, near Pike Lake Provincial Park.
This is the second Saskatchewan volunteer fire hall to be broken into in as many weeks.
Deputy Chief Jordan Florizone, with Grant Fire Rescue – RM 372, said up to $3,000 in tools, batteries and extrication gear were stolen from their fire hall in a break-in December 16.
Anyone with information about either of these thefts should contact their local RCMP detachment.
