Canadian dollar and business outlook

 Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – The Canadian dollar was holding steady Monday morning.

At 8:55 a.m. CDT the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.7320 or US$1=C$1.3661, which compares with Friday’s close of US$0.7318 or US$1=C$1.3655.

The value of building permits issued in Canada decreased by 11.7 per cent in March compared to the previous month, hitting C$10.5 billion, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The non-residential sector was down by 16.7 per cent at C$4.0 billion, while the residential sector decreased by 8.3 per cent at $6.5 billion.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was up by 0.96 per cent at US$79.01 per barrel.

The TSX was stronger, gaining 42.46 points at 8:55 CDT to trade at 22,351.39 points.
