Canadian Financial Close: Loonie, gold on the rise

Glacier FarmMedia MarketsFarm – The Canadian dollar was within striking distance of the 74 United States cent mark.

The loonie closed at US$0.7394 or US$1=C$1.3525, compared to US$0.7375 or US$1=C$1.3559 on Wednesday.

The United States Dollar Index jumped 0.61 of a point at 104.04, approaching its highest level in three weeks.

Crude oil prices moved lower on Wednesday. Brent crude oil was down US$0.28 at US$85.67 per barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) declined US$0.30 at US$80.97/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index pared early morning gains and ended the day adding 41.55 points at 22,087.26.

Gold jumped US$22.50 at US$2,183.50 per ounce.
