- Canada’s unemployment rate was up by 0.1 percentage points in February, to come in at 5.8 per cent, according to a report from Statistics Canada. The rise came despite 41,000 new jobs being created as population growth outpaced employment growth.
- The United States plans to build a temporary pier on the Gaza coastline to help aid efforts for the Palestinian enclave facing a humanitarian crisis. The plan was announced by U.S. President Joe Biden during his State of the Union speech Thursday evening. The speech was seen as setting the stage for the upcoming presidential election between Biden and likely Republican candidate Donald Trump, with Biden taking multiple shots at his ‘predecessor’ without ever mentioning Trump by name.
