- Russia launched almost 160 drones and missiles at Ukraine overnight, in what’s being described as one of the largest aerial strikes in the nearly two-year-old war. Reports on Friday said 118 drones and missiles were shot down, but those weapons that got through resulted in the deaths of 18 people. The attacks struck several Ukrainian cities including the capital of Kyiv, along with Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro and Kharkiv.

- Former United States President Donald Trump has been kicked off the ballot in a second state. Citing Trump’s role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Washington, D.C. insurrection, Maine secretary of state Shenna Bellows announced on Thursday that Trump has been disqualified from having his name on the Republican primary ballot in 2024. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court of Colorado ruled Trump could not have his name on that state’s upcoming Republican primary for the same reason.
- Boeing has urged the numerous airlines operating its 737 Max to check for a loose bolt in the airplane’s rudder assembly. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are recommending operators inspect their 737 Max airplanes and inform us of any findings.,” Boeing said in a statement on Thursday. Previously, the 737 Max was grounded for 20 months by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration following crashes in Ethiopia and Indonesia due to computer malfunctions, returning to world-wide service in 2020.
- About 66,500 teachers in Quebec will return to their classrooms after their union reached a tentative deal with the province. The strike by the Federation autonome de l’enseignement began on Nov. 23 resulted in 800 schools being closed, which affected 368,000 students provincewide. The labour dispute was one of a number of public sector strikes in Quebec that saw more than 420,000 workers hit the picket lines.
