Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: On the threshold of 76 U.S. cents

WINNIPEG, June 22 (MarketsFarm) – The Canadian dollar was a pinch below 76 United States cents on Thursday morning, despite gains in the U.S. currency and losses in crude oil.

As of 8:33 am CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7594 or C$1.3165, compared to Wednesday’s close of US$0.7586 or US$1=C$1.3183. On the U.S. Dollar Index, the greenback added 0.174 a point at 101.850.

Benchmark crude oil prices pulled back on Thursday morning, ahead of a likely interest rate hike by the U.S. Federal Reserve.

Brent crude oil gave up US$1.95 at US$75.17 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) lost US$1.91 at US$70.62.

Shortly after Thursday’s open the TSX/S&P Composite Index fell back 98.31 points at 19,607.64.

Gold dropped US$13.80 at US$1,931.10 per ounce.
