Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $54.70 May 5. It was not available for April 28.

U.S. hogs averaged $70.89 on a carcass basis May 5, down from $$71.67 April 28.

The U.S. pork cutout was $81.87 per hundredweight May 5, up from $81.32 April 28.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to May 5 was 2.311 million. It was 2.340 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.355 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the May 6 Signature Four price was $186.68 per 100 kilograms, up from 183.44.

The May 6 Hams Marketing cash price was $184.68, up from $181.44, HyLife was $199.32 compared to $194.93 April 29. OlyWest was $174.20, up from $170.70.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $190.32, from $186.70, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $199.32, compared to $$194.93 April 29.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 710 sheep and 400 lambs sold May 1.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta. reported that 464 sheep and 130 goats sold April 24.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$344 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$325, 70-85 lb. were $260-$315, 86-105 lb. were $230-$275 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-255. Wool rams were $100-170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$190.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$290, 55-69 lb. were $230-$290, 70-85 lb. were $250-$285, 86-105 lb. were $235-$262 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$247. Hair rams were $120-$170 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$145.
