OTTAWA (Staff) – Ray Howe, first vice-president of Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, is now the chief national spokesman for the three Prairie pools.

He was elected last week as chair of Prairie Pools Inc., the national policy lobby for Saskatchewan Pool, Alberta Wheat Pool and Manitoba Pool Elevators.

Past PPI chair Ken Edie of Manitoba Pool was named vice-chair, as was Alberta Pool first vice-president John Pearson.

In a statement issued by PPI Oct. 7, Howe said the pool lobby is needed now as farmers try to cope with changing domestic and international markets and demands for more efficiency.

“It will be extremely important in this time of change that we don’t lose sight of the needs and concerns of Prairie farmers,” he said.
