Canadian Financial Close: Loonie steady, crude oil rises

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar was at a standstill to end the month.

The loonie closed at US$0.7389 or US$1=C$1.3533, unchanged from Thursday.

The United States Dollar Index increased 0.43 of a point at 102.57.

Crude oil rose as exports as Iraq and the semi-autonomous province of Kurdistan remained at an impasse. Brent crude oil added US$0.50 per barrel to US$79.77. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) jumped US$1.21 at US$75.58/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index gained 158.90 points to close at 20,099.89.

Gold dropped US$10.40 at US$1,987.30 per ounce.
