Alberta’s agriculture minister is visiting China, Taiwan and Japan to drum up business for the province’s food industry.

Ed Stelmach is leading the Oct. 4-21 trade mission of Alberta businesses.

“Alberta’s agriculture industry is gearing up for a major expansion over the next several years,” Stelmach said in a news release.

“This mission is another opportunity for Alberta companies to reinforce the fact that this province is open for business, whether it’s in investment, production or processing.”

The agriculture trade mission is expected to meet with Alberta premier Ralph Klein’s trade mission in China for the signing of a beef technical agreement.

The agreement will help increase technical support services for China as it develops its beef industry.

About 70 businesses will be going on both trade missions. About 20 percent are agriculture companies.
