Canadian Dollar and Business Outlook: Loonie lower, crude oil rises

WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar was slightly lower on Monday.

As of 9:40 a.m. CDT, the loonie was at US$0.7688 or US$1=C$1.3007, compared to US$0.7699 or US$1=C$1.2989 on Friday.

The United States Dollar Index lost 0.26 of a point at 108.54.

Worldwide supply concerns caused crude oil prices to jump on Monday. Brent crude oil added US$2.40 per barrel to US$103.39. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose US$2.77 at US$95.83/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) was up US$0.99 to US$74.03/barrel.

The TSX/S&P Composite Index shed 33.25 points to 19.840.04.

Gold gained US$4.10 per ounce to US$1,753.90.
