Tim Wiens resigned as director of the Saskatchewan Egg Producers in August following disagreements with how the board was operating.

Wiens, whose term would have expired with elections next spring, said he was unhappy with the way the board was run, with its management and with how the directors were handling it.

“I had differences with how things were going,” said Wiens of Southeast Poultry Farm near Regina.

The board membership remained unchanged until this summer when Wiens and his cousin and fellow director Don Wiens resigned. The board hired a new executive director last year.

Now in semi-retirement, Don Wiens of Horizon Poultry Ltd. near Regina, has sold some of his quota and no longer raises birds on his own farm.

“It was the board’s decision that I not serve until the end of my term,” he said, noting producers must be involved in the daily operation of their quota in order to serve as a director.

He is continuing as an adviser to the board.

Both men had served on the board for almost a decade. Tim Wiens did not rule out running again in the future.
