Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was unavailable March 11. It was $74.92 March 4.

U.S. hogs averaged $101.57 on a carcass basis March 11, up from $97.41 March 4.

The U.S. pork cutout was $102.55 per hundred eight March 11, down from $103.99 March 4.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to March 12 was 2.475 million, up from 2.419 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.583 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the March 12 Signature Four price was C$223.91 per 100 kilograms, up from $222.17.

Crop estimates show mixed results

Model-based estimates used by Statistics Canada showed the 2025/26 crop year has seen increases in canola, corn for grain, oats and lentils production while seeing dips in spring wheat, durum wheat, soybeans and barley in comparison to 2024/25.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $221.91, up from $220.17, HyLife was $238.45, up from $236.24, and OlyWest was $227.40, up from $226.90. OlyWest 2021 was $235.70, down from $239.40, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $238.45, up from $237.56.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.15 on heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 862 sheep sold March 7.
