Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $72.64 Feb. 25. It was unavailable Feb. 18.

U.S. hogs averaged $87.78 on a carcass basis Feb. 25, up from $86.78 Feb. 18.

The U.S. pork cutout was $113.32 per hundredweight Feb. 18, down from $109.96 Feb. 11.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 26 was 2.507 million, up from 2.498 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.649 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Feb. 26 Signature Four price was C$219.83 per 100 kilograms, up from $207.85.

Global pulse consumption to grow

Global per capita pulse consumption is expected to rise 23 per cent by 2034.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $217.83, up from $205.85, HyLife was $234.70, up from $222.27, and OlyWest was $219.70, up from $203.30. OlyWest 2021 was $232.80, up from $217.70, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $240.38, up from $234.33.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4.00 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 750 sheep sold Feb. 21.
