Co-op welcomes funding applications
The Co-op Community Spaces Program is providing $1 million to support capital projects dedicated to recreation, environmental conservation and urban agriculture this year.
The program was launched in 2015 to help protect, beautify and improve local spaces.
Since then, it has provided $10.5 million to 147 local projects, including parks, greenhouses and sports fields.
March 1 is the deadline for registered non-profit organizations, registered charities or community service co-operatives to apply.
Funding between $25,000 and $150,000 is available per project.

Student awards receive support
1st Choice Savings and Credit Union based in Lethbridge is giving $55,000 to support student awards in Lethbridge College’s bachelor of agriculture science degree program and the agriculture sciences diploma program.
The money will help create new awards for students, which will directly support the province’s future agriculture leaders.
The first recipients of these awards will be chosen this summer.
Tax credit available
The Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission (Sask Wheat) announced that for the crop year ending July 31, 2021, wheat producers may claim 67.93 percent of their levy contributions to Sask Wheat as a qualifying scientific research and experimental development expenditure on their federal tax return.
Farm corporations may also claim 48.97 percent of their levy contributions as a qualifying expenditure towards the Saskatchewan Research and Development Tax Credit program.
In the 2020-21 crop year, Sask Wheat committed nearly $10.2 million to 50 research projects.

4-H lifetime honorary member
Dawn Krinke of Brandon has been inducted as a lifetime honorary member of 4-H Canada for her outstanding service to the organization.
Her involvement with 4-H Manitoba began in 2006, where she held roles of office manager and executive director until her retirement last year.
Some of her contributions include transitioning 4-H Manitoba from a government-run administration to a non-profit organization.
Krinke also helped organize the 100th anniversary of 4-H in Canada in Winnipeg in 2013 and facilitated a Japanese-Canadian exchange program in 2018.
She also helped implement national standards and policies in risk management and youth safety training.
FCC board appointments
Bertha Campbell, Govert Verstralen and Laura Donaldson have been reappointed for a three-year term to Farm Credit Canada’s board of directors, effective Feb. 1.
These individuals come from educational and career backgrounds including nursing, finance and law and are active members in their communities.
Innovation centre
Assiniboine Community College’s Prairie Innovation Centre for Sustainable Agriculture has received $100,000 from Doug and Laurie Murray and the Murray Auto Group in Westman, Man., both long-time supporters of the college.
The Prairie Innovation Centre will create an enhanced agricultural training capacity, increasing seats in agriculture-related programs from 300 to more than 800.
