HOGS
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $49.80 Dec. 17, down from $51.59 Dec 10.
U.S. hogs averaged $59.41 on a carcass basis Dec. 17, up from $57.69 Dec. 10.
The U.S. pork cutout was $85.82 per hundredweight Dec. 17, down from $86.19 Dec. 10.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Dec. 18 was 2.645 million, up from 2.570 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.800 last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Dec. 18 Signature Four price was C$169.81 per 100 kilograms, up from $165.62.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $180.27, up from $163.62, HyLife was $180.27, up from $176.72, and OlyWest was $162.60, the same as the previous week. OlyWest 2021 was $181.80, down from $182, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $190.17, up from $184.97.
BISON
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.75-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$3.60-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
LAMBS
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 2,473 sheep sold Dec. 13.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,607 sheep and 243 goats sold Dec. 13.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $280-$370 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $280-$384, 70-85 lb. were $275-$360, 86-105 lb. were $235-$330 and 106 lb. and heavier were $240-$260. Wool rams were $172-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$212.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$325 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$364, 70-85 lb. were $220-$320, 86-105 lb. were $235-$296 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$245. Hair rams were $170-$230 per cwt. Cull ewes were $150-$200.
