Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $47.35 Nov. 12. It was unavailable Nov. 5.

U.S. hogs averaged $58 on a carcass basis Nov. 12, down from $59.90 Nov. 5.

The U.S. pork cutout was $94.71 per hundredweight Nov. 12, down from $96.33 Nov. 5.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Nov. 13 was 2.614 million, up from 2.603 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.681 last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Nov. 13 Signature Four price was C$176.91 per 100 kilograms, up from $176.31.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $174.91, up from $174.31, HyLife was $187.01, down from $187.29, and OlyWest was $175.10, down from $176.90. OlyWest 2021 was $196.40, up from $195.30, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $196.80, down from $200.72.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,250 sheep, lambs and 68 goats sold Nov 1.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 671 sheep and 558 goats sold Nov 8.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $220-$265 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $240-$279, 70-85 lb. were $217-$275, 86-105 lb. were $205-$243 and 106 lb. and heavier were $210-$229. Wool rams were $134-$185 per cwt. Cull ewes were $125-$200.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $190-$235 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $210-$240, 70-85 lb. were $193-$259, 86-105 lb. were $185-$225 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$213. Hair rams were $154-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$200.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $4-$4.15 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and $3.90-$4.15 for heifers on very light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.60-$4.80 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.70 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85-$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60-$3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
