Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available March 5 and $58.83 Feb. 25.
U.S. hogs averaged $81.04 on a carcass basis March 5, up from $78.52 Feb. 25.
The U.S. pork cutout was $95.14 per hundredweight March 5, up from $93.84 Feb. 25.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to March 6 was 2.563 million, down from 2.642 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.680 last year at the same time.
In Canada, the March 6 Signature Four price was C$187.02 per 100 kilograms, up from $178.23.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $185.02, up from $176.23, HyLife was $199.94, up from $190.79, and OlyWest was $183.10, up from $175.80. OlyWest 2021 was $197.20, up from $192, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $201.46, up from $198.91.
Bison
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.80-$5 for prime bulls and $4.40-$4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
Lambs
Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 266 sheep and lambs and 194 goats sold Feb 22.
Sheep sold at stronger prices, while lambs sold at fully steady prices. There were too few goats to call a market.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 866 sheep and 169 goats sold Feb. 22.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $340-$490 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $370-$440, 70-85 lb. were $330-$390, 86-105 lb. were $270-$350 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$265. Wool rams were $145-$205 per cwt. Cull ewes were $137-$210.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $250-$385 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $370-$425, 70-85 lb. were $320-$370, 86-105 lb. were $270-$330 and 106 lb. and heavier were $220-$250. Hair rams were $170-$220 per cwt. Cull ewes were $150-$250.
