Charlie Swanson has been elected president of Agricore, the new grain company created by the merger of Manitoba Pool Elevators and Alberta Wheat Pool.
The 62-year-old Swanson, president of Manitoba Pool for the last eight years, was elected to a one-year term by Agricore’s board of directors Aug. 16.
He will take office when the new company is officially born on Oct. 30. Elections for vice-president will take place in October.
“I am excited about the possibilities we will have to bring added value and greater economic benefits to our farmer-customers across western Canada,” he said in a news release.
Swanson has been a member of Manitoba Pool for more than 40 years. He was first elected as a director in 1980 and served five years as vice-president before becoming president.
