HOGS

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $29.87 July 24, up from $26.86 on July 17.

U.S. hogs averaged $37.87 on a carcass basis July 24, up from $31.55 July 17.

The U.S. pork cutout was $72.68 per cwt. July 24, up from $71.19 July 17.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to July 25 was 2.589 million, up from 2.518 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.359 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the July 25 Signature Four price was C$128.86 per 100 kilograms, up from $123.58.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $126.86, up from $121.58. HyLife was $138.02, up from $133.61, and OlyWest was $115.80, up from $109.60. HyLife’s adjusted price was $157.07, up from $152.75.

BISON

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $5 for prime bulls and $4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$3.85 per lb. hot hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.60. Returns to the producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

LAMBS

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,487 sheep and lambs and 18 goats sold July 20. Holiday type lambs sold considerably stronger. Goats also sold stronger. Light lambs and sheep sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,487 sheep and 551 goats sold July 20.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $175-$240 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $200-$245, 70-85 lb. were $210-$270, 86-105 lb. were $224-$265 and 106 lb. and heavier were $205-$268. Wool rams were $130-$240 per cwt. Cull ewes were $110-$200.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $150-$245 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $184-$230, 70-85 lb. were $220-$242, 86-105 lb. were $215-$260 and 106 lb. and heavier were $200-$210. Hair rams were $150-$275 per cwt. Cull ewes were $116-$199.
