Director hired

Roy Button has joined the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission as executive director.

Button was the soils and crops agrologist for Saskatchewan Agriculture for many years in northeast Saskatchewan.

He holds a masters degree in agriculture, specializing in soil science.

The commission administers a checkoff on canola sales and uses the money to fund research, market development and extension education.

Honorary Olds degrees

Henry Heuver and Doug Cooper have received honorary bachelor of applied horticulture technology degrees from Olds College in Olds, Alta.

Heuver emigrated to Canada in 1963 from Holland and formed a landscaping company in Calgary. He has been involved with the Landscape Alberta Nursery Trades Association since 1970 and assisted with fund-raising for the college’s landscape construction pavilion.

Cooper, of Red Deer, Alta., helped start the college’s seed and grain technology program. Now retired, he remains a consultant in the program’s development and promotion.

SWP appointments

Don Slobodzian has been appointed vice-president and general manager of CSP Foods, a Saskatchewan Wheat Pool operation, effective Aug. 1.

Slobodzian was raised on a dairy farm near Dauphin, Man., and holds bachelor of commerce and bachelor of business administration degrees.

He joined the pool in 1996 as vice-president of human resources, and before that worked for Cargill in grain marketing, fertilizer manufacturing and meat processing positions.

Sask Pool also recently announced the appointment of Shawna Kelly as executive assistant to the president, effective Aug. 4.

Kelly was previously the manager of communications in the pool’s public affairs and communications division and worked in other media positions before joining Sask Pool.
