A small meat plant and wild rice exporter in the northern Saskatchewan community of La Ronge is one of the finalists for this year’s Canada Export Awards to be presented in late September in Montreal.

Kitsaki Meats LP bills itself as the only federally inspected meat plant in northern Saskatchewan and the producer of meat snacks sold across Canada. It also exports wild rice.

Twenty five companies across Canada have been nominated for the government-sponsored award.

Kitsaki is the only Saskatchewan finalist this year. Its website boasts a workforce that includes many aboriginals.

Up to 10 companies will win the award, to be presented at the Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters convention in Montreal, Sept. 23-25.
