Seed growers honored
The Canadian Seed Growers’ Association honored 12 individuals last month for their contributions to the seed industry.
In the Robertson Associate category, granted to those with at least 15 years of outstanding pedigreed seed production, are Alex Connell of Palmerston, Ont, Grant Sissons of Portage la Prairie, Man., Don Dewar of Dauphin, Man., Cameron Henry of Oak River, Man., John Allan of Corning, Sask. and Donald Ostergard of Drumheller, Alta.
Honorary life memberships, given to those who have made outstanding contributions to the seed growers and to agriculture, were presented to Bert Christie of Charlottetown, P.E.I., David Leisle, Ron McKenzie and John Rogalsky, all of Winnipeg, and Joe Tsukamoto of Brandon, Man.

The Clark-Newman award, presented to one person who has made an exceptional contribution to pedigreed seed production and agriculture through research, plant breeding or administration, was given to Edward McLaughlin of Ottawa.
New Angus president
Gary Harron of Allenford, Ont. is the new president of the 2,800 member Canadian Aberdeen Angus Association.
With his wife Yvonne, Harron maintains a purebred herd of Aberdeen Angus. He served as president of the Ontario Angus Association before being elected to the board of the Canadian association seven years ago, and has been chair of the Canadian Angus Beef Committee for the past three years.
Joining Harron on the executive committee are past-president Jim Round of Clyde, Alta., president-elect Lori Goodrich of Hardisty, Alta. and Barney Creech of Lloydminster, Sask.
Feed plant expands
Ritchie-Smith Feeds of Abbotsford, B.C. is expanding its production capacity with a new feed manufacturing plant to be located next to its Abbotsford mill.
The facility will producer broiler feed, although it will be designed to manufacture other feeds as well. Initial output for the mill is 150,000 tonnes per year, and is expected to be in operation by July 1997.
