The Canadian Simmental Association has gone into the publishing business.
The association has purchased Simmental Country, a monthly magazine for purebred Simmental breeders.
The magazine staff remains the same. Changes in editorial content will be introduced over time, said association manager Barry Bennett from head office in Calgary.
Final details of the sale were to be available at the association’s annual meeting July 31 in Charlottetown.
Publisher Ted Pritchett, who owned the magazine for 18 years, has been contracted by the association to write the history of Simmental since its establishment in Canada 30 years ago. Pritchett was among the original cattle producers who traveled to Europe to buy continental cattle and introduce the larger framed, muscular animals to Canada’s beef industry which was based on British breeds.
The history will run in the magazine on a monthly basis enabling breeders to review and correct the material before it is published in book form, said Bennett.
