Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$38.50 per cwt. Feb. 8, down from $39.80 Feb. 1.

U.S. hogs averaged $49.43 on a carcass basis Feb. 8, down from $50.38 Feb. 1.

The U.S. pork cutout was $64.82 per cwt. Feb. 8, down from $66.99 Feb. 1.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 9 was 2.516 million, up from 2.387 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.389 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Feb. 9 Signature Five price was C$129.50 per 100 kilograms, down from $132.25 the previous week.

USDA’s August corn yield estimates are bearish

The yield estimates for wheat and soybeans were neutral to bullish, but these were largely a sideshow when compared with corn.

On a per hundredweight basis the price was $58.74, down from $59.99.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$5.50-$5.70 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.30 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.30-$5.50. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.15.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 887 sheep and lambs and 15 goats sold Feb 4. New crop lambs sold steady with all other lambs trading $5-$7 per cwt. higher. Goats and thick sheep sold steady. Lean sheep traded $10 cwt. higher.
