Angus association has new board
Trevor Welch of Glassville, N.B., has been elected president of the Canadian Angus Association.
Brett Wildman of Sangudo, Alta., moved into the past-president position and Bob Hahn of Sherwood Park, Alta., was chosen president elect.
Welch is a fourth-generation farmer who operates Garvie Mountain Angus. His herd is made up of purebred black Angus and Black Baldie commercial cows.
Wildman owns and operates Wildman Livestock. He was raised in a purebred Angus operation and has worked as a herdsman and semen collector.

Hahn has operated HR Hahn Cattle Co. since 2000 and also has four years of experience serving on the Alberta Angus Association board.
New directors include Tom deWaal in British Columbia, Brian Geis of Alberta and Mike Howe and Sheldon Kyle of Saskatchewan.
Angus fundraiser helps expand breed
Donors helped raise $169,750 during the seventh annual Canadian Angus Foundation Building the Legacy fundraiser auction in Comox, B.C.
The fundraiser was initiated in 2012 to help preserve and expand the Angus breed for future generations through education, youth development, scientific and market research and historical preservation.
Nuffield Canada Scholars named
Nuffield Canada has selected five recipients for its 2019 program:
- Ryan Boyd of Forrest, Man., is receiving the Western Canadian Grains Research Foundation scholarship.
- Mark Brock of Staffa, Ont., receiving the Grain Farmers of Ontario scholarship.
- John Cote of Saskatoon is receiving a Nuffield Canada alumni fund scholarship.
- Scott Holtman of Taber, Alta., is receiving the Alberta Wheat Commission scholarship.
- Christoph Weder of Hudson’s Hope, B.C. is receiving a Nuffield Canada alumni fund scholarship.
