Ag Canada adjusts supply/demand tables slightly

Winnipeg (CNS Canada) – Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada included only minor adjustments in their latest supply/demand tables, released on April 23, 2018.

The market analysis branch of Agriculture Canada left its production estimates unchanged for the upcoming 2018/19 growing season. Statistics Canada releases the first survey-based acreage estimates on April 27, and subsequent reports from Agriculture Canada will reflect those official numbers.

In the meantime, ending stocks of the major grains and oilseeds for 2018/19 were lowered to 13.715 million tonnes, from an earlier forecast of 13.875 million. Grain and oilseed ending stocks for the current 2017/18 marketing year were pegged at 13.800 million tonnes, which were down only slightly from the March forecast of 13.900 million.

Total pulse and special crop ending stocks for 2018/19 are now pegged at 2.045 million tonnes, which compares with the March estimate of 2.050 million and the 2017/18 estimate of 2.365 million tonnes.
