Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, Feb. 15 (CNS Canada) – The Canadian dollar was slightly firmer Thursday morning, as traders looked ahead to comments from the Bank of Canada.

At 10:19 CST Thursday morning the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7984 or C$1.2525, which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US$0.7961 or C$1.2562.

Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Lawrence Schembri is scheduled to give a speech on inflation later in the day, and investors will be following closely for any hints on future rate moves.

Crude oil was posting small losses, which put some pressure on the energy-linked currency.

The TSX was weaker at 10:19 CST, down 22.97 points at 15,305.30.
