– A government shutdown is looming in the United States, as a bill to extend funding for a wide range of federal programs is being held up by a dispute over immigration reform.

– Upcoming talks on the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) in Montreal next week will be extended an extra day (to Jan. 29), as Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. continue to work on the deal in the face of conflicting sentiment coming out of the White House.
