Pulses: AUS rains could help frost-damaged chickpeas recover

Winnipeg, November 20 (CNS) – India’s decision to raise duties on pea imports is taking a bite out of Canada’s exports. According to Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, pea exports will be lowered to 2.4 million tonnes in 2017/18. That compares to exports of 3.9 million tonnes the year previous. Canada’s pea ending stocks are subsequently expected to be half a million tonnes higher than previously expected.
Yellow pea prices in Western Canada were hanging steady, according to the latest information from the Prairie Ag Hotwire. Prices are now listed at C$5.00 to C$6.50 a bushel.

Recent rains in Australia could help chickpeas recover from a frost in early November, according to a report on Farmonline.com. Up to 80 millimetres of precipitation fell last week in Victoria and other portions of southern Australia. The moisture is too late to benefit many crops but some researchers say it could help chickpeas reflower after a frost in early November damaged the crop.
Laird #1 lentils fell one cent and now going for 31 to 36 cents a pound, according to the Hotwire.
Eston #1 lentils rose one cent and are listed at 28 to 30 cents per pound.
Bids for light kidney beans fell by one cent last week and are now 36.5 cents a pound.
