The Canadian Roundtable for Sustainable Beef has launched a 60 day public commit period from June 29 until Aug. 29 on its sustainability indicators for the beef processing sector.
When all comments are received, they will be posted and another 30 day round in the fall will be held to refine the program.
The roundtable is a multi-stakeholder group that includes producers, processors, retailers, government and non-governmental organizations like the World Wildlife Fund. Together they are working to encourage sustainable practices from the farm and beyond the beef value chain.
The strategy consists of assessments of environmental, social and economic performance using indicators that can be measured for specific outcomes.
Ultimately the roundtable plans to release a verification framework to help everyone in the chain produce source verified sustainable beef.
