Jennifer Hayes, a Quebec dairy and beef farmer, has been appointed commissioner to the Canadian Dairy Commission.

Federal Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay announced the appointment today for a three-year term, effective Jan. 3. Hayes replaces Henricus (Hennie) Bos of Lacombe, Alta., in the position.

Hayes is a third-generation farmer at PineCrest Farms in Quebec’s Gaspe Peninsula, which she owns  and operates along with her father and uncle. She is a member of the Union des Producteurs Agricoles and has experience in rural economic development and programs aimed at sustainable agriculture. She holds an MBA from Concordia University.

The CDC co-ordinates federal and provincial dairy policies. It sets the support price of butter and skim milk powder annually and monitors national production and demand for milk.
