Canadian Financial Close: TSX climbs with banking sector

WINNIPEG, December 8 – The Canadian dollar advanced against
its US counterpart on Thursday, propelled by gains in crude oil
and natural gas.
Losses in gold, silver and copper limited the upside.
The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7581 or US$1.3191,
compared to Wednesday’s close of C$0.7555 or US$1=C$1.3237.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index finished higher on Thursday, as
banking stocks firmed with robust US labour data.
The index rose 57.45 points or 0.38% to 15,295.20.
Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:

AGT Food and Ingredients—–up $ 0.05 at $ 35.00
Agrium Incorporated———-up $ 1.87 at $140.67
Buhler Industries————– $ 0.00 at $ 4.70
Maple Leaf Foods————-up $ 0.12 at $ 28.37
Potash Corp. of Sask———up $ 0.34 at $ 25.42
