Canadian Financial Close: Loonie falls with oil

WINNIPEG–The Canadian dollar finished lower
against its US counterpart on Thursday. Losses in crude oil,
silver, gold and natural gas pointed the way downward.
The Canadian dollar closed at C$0.7393 or US$1.3526,
compared to Wednesday’s close of C$0.7440 or US$1=C$1.3441.
The S&P/TSX Composite Index finished higher, taking
strength from gains in the food sector.
The index rose 92.87 points, or 0.63%, to close at
14,826.09.
Canada’s agricultural sector performed as follows:

AGT Food and Ingredients—–up $ 0.41 at $ 35.69
Agrium Incorporated———-up $ 0.38 at $132.00
Buhler Industries————– $ 0.00 at $ 4.69
Maple Leaf Foods————-up $ 0.21 at $ 28.95
Potash Corp. of Sask———up $ 0.38 at $ 23.99
