John Deere has replied to the U.S. Department of Justice’s effort to block Deere’s proposed acquisition of Precision Planting, which is owned by Monsanto.
The department argues the deal would combine the only two significant U.S. makers of high-speed precision planting systems and so limit competition and raise prices.
Deere said the deal will benefit farmers and denied “that there is any meaningful economic market consisting of ‘high-speed precision planting systems.’ ”
