CALGARY (Staff) – The Canadian Beef Improvement organization after one year of operation has decided to rewrite its business plan.
The group was set up to take over the government record-of-performance program and set up a genetic evaluation service that would ultimately create a database to improve meat quality. But CBI is going to rework some of those goals it said in a release.
An economic downturn in the cattle industry and some disagreement among industry members as to what genetic improvement services are needed were at the root of the change, said CBI chair Sid Wilkinson.
Part of the changes include the resignation of CBI executive director Ken Aylesworth. The group also plans to work more closely with Beef Improvement Ontario to avoid duplication of services.
CBI said it will continue delivering the ROP program, genetic evaluation services and a national carcass quality program.
