Ontario’s hog marketing board has won a court judgment against a large hog producer who tried to get around the board’s single-desk selling power.
Acre T Farms marketed hogs directly for the last two years and refused to pay required service fees to the Ontario Pork Producers’ Marketing Board.
The board took the farm and its owners to court and won last month.
A spokesperson for the board said the judgment in the Ontario Court of Justice (General Division) confirms the single-desk power, exercised either in direct sales by board staff or through contract arrangements with producers.
Last year, the board sold close to four million hogs, recording gross sales of $647 million.
