Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, MB, September 16, 2016 (CNS Canada) – The Canadian dollar lost ground against its US counterpart Friday morning, tracking losses in crude oil.

Weak domestic data added to the declines.

At 8:35 CDT Friday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7556 or US$=C$1.3234, which compares with Thursday’s North American close of US$0.7599 or US$1=C$13160.

New York Mercantile crude oil futures shed US$1.08 a barrel or 2.46 per cent to sit at US$42.83 at 8:35 a.m. on Friday.

In Canadian domestic data, manufacturing sales edged up 0.1 per cent in July to C$50.7 billion, Statistics Canada said in a report on Friday.

The sales fell short of analysts’ expectations for a one per cent increase.

The TSX was down 46.77 points at 8:35 CDT Friday morning to sit at 14,456.90.
