WINNIPEG, June 21 (CNS Canada) The Canadian dollar slightly weakened against its US counterpart Tuesday morning as the market awaits comments from US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen.
Yellen is expected to speak Tuesday on the central bank’s monetary policy before the Senate Banking Committee in Washington, nudging the loonie slightly down.
Opinion polls showing fewer chances of Britain leaving the European Union are still supporting the market. Britain is scheduled to vote on Thursday.
At 8:49 CDT Tuesday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7802 or US$=C$1.2817, which compares with Monday’s North American close of US$0.7807 or US$1=C$1.2809.
The TSX was down 32.15 points, or 0.23 per cent, at 8:49 CDT Tuesday morning to sit at 13,982.99.
