Pulses: Pulse Prices Rise in India

Winnipeg, June 16 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Thursday, June 16.
– Prices of pulses in India edged close to 200 Indian rupees per kilogram, or US$2.97 per kilogram, despite the government deciding to increase the buffer stock. It has yet to be determined if more pulses for the buffer stock will help to curb rising prices.
– Eastern Washington’s Fresh Nature Foods is taking its first step into the global market with several trade agreements in the South Korea, including interest from a hospital. Fresh Nature foods is the only farm in North America growing and harvesting immature green chickpeas(garbanzo beans).

– Top end green pea prices in the C$8.75 to C$9.75 per bushel range being reported in Western Canada. Meanwhile, top end yellow peas are going for as much as C$11.90 per bushel in some locations. Red lentil bids of 48 cents per pound are now being reported in some locations. Meanwhile, number two large green lentils are still hitting prices as high as 70 cents.
– Chickpea prices in Western Canada remain strong, with large caliber Kabuli’s trading as high as 58 cents per pound.
