Spitz sunflower kernels are the latest subjects of a recall announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency due to risk of listeria contamination.
Also named in the same June 2 CFIA news release was Quaker Harvest brand Quinoa Granola Bars. Both products were distributed nationally by Quaker Canada, a business unit of PepsiCo Canada.
The granola bars affected are the chocolate nut medley and the yogurt, fruit and nut flavours, both in the 175-gram, five-bar package.
Spitz’s salted sunflower kernels and dill pickle sunflower kernels in the 100-gram package are the types affected by the recall.
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by Quaker, and the government agency will be conducting a food safety investigation. There have been no reported illnesses associated with eating the granola or sunflower seeds.
Those who have purchased them should throw them out or return them to place of purchase.
Listeria symptoms include vomiting, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness.
