A brand of frozen organic peas is the subject of a recall announced by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency April 23.
Organic by Nature frozen sweet peas may be contaminated with listeria bacteria, which can cause serious illness.
The peas were distributed through Costco in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and British Columbia. They are being voluntarily recalled by Costco. However, there have been no reported illnesses associated with eating the product.
The CFIA said the recall was triggered by a recall in another country, which it did not name, and it is investigating the matter.
Consumers who have purchased the peas, which come in a 2.5 kilogram package, should throw them out or return them to place of purchase.
Listeria monocytogenes can cause vomiting, fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. It can be particularly dangerous to pregnant women, the elderly and those with poor immune systems.
