Pulses: Start of the International Year of Pulses

Winnipeg, January 4 – Following are a few highlights in the
Canadian and world pulse markets on Monday, January 4.

– In 2013 the United Nations declared that 2016 will be the International Year of Pulses, and the time has finally come. The purpose of the pulse year is to position the commodity as a primary source of protein, and to spur discussion, according to reports.

– Yellow peas in Western Canada range in price from C$397.14 to C$423.24 per tonne, as of Monday, according to Price and Data Quotes (PDQ).

– Canada’s reported lentil exports totalled 88,700 metric tonnes in November, according to the Canadian Grain Commission.

– India’s green pea prices have depreciated as vegetable prices move higher, according to reports.
