WINNIPEG, December 3 The Canadian dollar was slightly weaker against its US counterpart on Thursday as the Bank of Canada announced it will not react to an interest rate increase from the US Federal Reserve.
At 8:40 a.m. CST the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7487 or C$1.3356 which compares with Wednesday’s North American close of US$0.7491, or C$1.3349.
The Bank of Canada released a statement saying they will not be swayed by monetary policy changes in the US.
The US Federal Reserve is expected to make a decision on the country’s interest rates in about two weeks.
There was no significant economic data released by Statistics Canada on Thursday.
The TSX was stronger in early activity, up 33.57 points at 8:40 a.m. CST to sit at 13,497.39.
